Delete your locates.me account

Deleting your account cannot be undone. Your handle stops working immediately, and the name is held for 90 days before anyone else can take it.

What gets deleted

• Your account and your sign-in details.
• Every handle on the account - the coordinates, the label, the address and the what3words address.
• The phone number held on your account.
• Your customer record with our payment provider, if you have one. Any subscription is cancelled as part of the deletion.

Two things are kept, and both for a limited time. The handle name is held for 90 days so that somebody cannot take a handle the moment it is given up, and pick up post or deliveries meant for you. Records we have to keep by law - a receipt for a payment, for example - are kept for as long as the law requires and for nothing else. The privacy policy has the detail.

Deleting it yourself, on the website

1. Sign in at locates.me/account.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page, to Delete this account.
3. Press the button once. It changes to ask you to press it again.
4. Press it a second time, within five seconds, to confirm.

Deleting it in the app

1. Open the locates.me app and go to the Account tab.
2. Sign in if you are not already signed in.
3. Scroll to the bottom, to Delete this account.
4. Press the button once, then press it again to confirm.

Asking us to delete it

You do not need the app installed, and you do not need to be able to sign in. Email hello@locates.me from the address on the account, asking for the account to be deleted. We will confirm once it is done.

If you cannot email from that address, write from any address and say which account you mean. We will ask you for something that shows the account is yours before deleting anything, because otherwise anybody could delete anybody's handle.

Deleting a handle without deleting the account

If you only want a handle to stop working, delete the handle instead and keep the account. On the website that is the Delete button beside the handle; in the app it is at the bottom of the handle's own screen.
